Clarify’s Book Night

Hosted By: CUS Clarify

Oct 15, 2021 06:00 PM

Location: Birmingham Hall, Henry Angus

Clarify aims to create spaces for UBC students to have open dialogue on topics related to sexual violence prevention. One of the ways we believe we can provoke discussion over the topic is through literature.

Our vision for the event is that student attendees all read a novel such as The Red Word or draw examples from other forms of media (film, poetry, animation, music…) for discussion. At the event, we will share our thoughts and perspectives, as well as relate what we have read/watched/experienced to our current society’s gender inequality and the possible actions we can take to move towards consent culture.

Desserts, coffee, and tea will also be provided throughout the event. All are welcome to attend, regardless of their knowledge of the featured novel or other media! The main purpose of this event is to provide a comfortable casual environment for students to openly share their feelings on the literature (as well as sexual violence and consent culture) and connect with other students who are interested in learning more about sexual violence prevention and gender inequality.
